Flip Wilson was one of the finer comedians to grace the TV screen. He was a class act all the way around.

His discovery by Johnny Carson and Redd Foxx was timely , in a era when television could make or break a funny man.

Flip appeard on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson many times and did his entertaining stand up routine to the delight of Carson and the audience.

Here are some interesting facts about Wilson:

  • He dressed in drag to portray his famous Geraldine Character.
  • His variety show was on NBC for four years, in the early to mid 1970′s.
  • Flip Wilson’s Show featured  the biggest names in entertainment from that time.
  • When the show was finally canceled, Wilson’s career went downhill fast.
  • He died in 1998.
